Archaeological Mexico

Teotihuacan ruins, just south of Mexico City

This archaeology-focussed trip takes you to the attractions of Mexico City, the ruins of Teotihuacan, and the shrine of Guadalupe. Then we visit Oaxaca and the archaeological sites of Monte Alban and Mitla. After flying to Merida we go to the amazing Mayan ruins of Uxmal and Chichen Itza.

Day 1: Arrive in Mexico
Zocalo, Mexico cityArrival to Mexico City International airport. Reception and transfer to the hotel of your preference.

Day 2: Mexico City
Morning city sightseeing – half day guided visit, including the most important buildings in the historical center located around the Zocalo, the cathedral, and the National Palace to admire the famous murals of Diego Rivera. Continue to the modern part of the city, ending at the Anthropology Museum (closed on Mondays), one of the world’s best museums. Return to your hotel.

Day 3: Mexico City - Teotihuacan Pyramids
Morning guided trip to the famous Teotihuacan Pyramids, a five hour trip starting with a visit to the Virgin of Guadalupe shrine, place of pilgrimage for millions of Mexicans and foreigners. Continue north of the city to the Teotihuacan Pyramids, where we will visit the Sun and the Moon Pyramids, the Quetzalcoatl Temple and the fortresses. Free time to climb to the top of the Pyramids or wander around. Return to your hotel. B

Day 4: Mexico City - Oaxaca
Leave Mexico City, transportation to the airport. Flight to Oaxaca (air fare not included) Arrival and reception at airport. The city was founded in 1521 in a wide valley at the foot of the sierra. B

Day 5: Oaxaca - Santa Maria
Visit of the archaeological site of Monte Alban. It is one of the most important archaeological sites in Mesoamerica as well as one of the largest monument groups on the continent. Continue to the Mitla ruins, with surprisingly exquisite architecture. The harmonious proportion of its buildings and the discreet dimensions of its patios emphasize the ornamentation of its mosaic-covered walls. Santa Maria Tule is located fourteen kilometres from Oaxaca, a small town of potters and farmers. Return to your selected hotel. B

Day 6: Oaxaca - Merida
Leave Oaxaca, transportation to the airport for you to take a flight to Merida (not included). Upon arrival, reception at the airport and transfer to your selected hotel. B

Day 7: Merida - Uxmal and Kabah - Merida
Uxmal and KabahExcursion to the archaeological site of Uxmal, its architecture is considering one of the masterpieces of the old civilization. Then, visit the small but very interesting archaeological site of Kabah. Return to Mérida. Overnight at the hotel of your choice. B, L

Day 8: Merida - Chichen-Itza - Cancun
Today a fascinating excursion to Chichen Itza, one of the largest and best-maintained sites in Mexico.  The visit includes the most prominent buildings, like the Castillo, the Ball Court the Observatory, the Temple of the Warriors and the Nunnery. Departure to Cancun for a four  hours bus ride until the arrival to your hotel (accommodation not included).
